Letter to Parents
Week of March 15, 2021
Dear Canty Families:
Last week, all remote families received emails/text messages with a survey to opt-in for hybrid learning for 4th quarter. Another wave of text messages/emails will be sent by CPS today. You have until Friday, March 19th to respond. Not responding to the survey will result in a default to learning remotely. Please email Ms. Malo at lamalo@cps.edu if you did not receive a text message or email and would like to send us your child’s learning preference for Q4. Please include your child/ren’s name/s and homeroom/s. Please note, current hybrid families will not receive this survey as hybrid students will continue in-person learning in quarter 4.
Canty Evacuation(Fire) Drill Tuesday and Friday
On Tuesday and Friday at 10:15am, in-person students will participate in a second evacuation/fire drill, during which students will engage in asynchronous activities. This drill will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Wednesday Asynchronous Clubs start this week!
Last week, students were added to a Google Classroom Wednesday Asynchronous Club that is supported by Canty staff every Wednesday afternoon (from about 12:30-3pm). This is an optional meet that students may choose to attend for homework support and fun activities. Clubs begin this Wednesday, March 17th. To join, students accept the Google Classroom invite and on Wednesday, they should click the meet link located in the Google Classroom.

Each week in March, 25% of students will be randomly selected for testing. Students must be at least 10 years old and have their parent or guardian consent prior to being tested.
Last week, your child received a paper copy of the consent form. Please complete and return it to school. Only students with returned consent forms will be tested. Please review these links for more information: Student Testing Flyer, Infographic from BioReference , Consent Form
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program
As part of the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all CPS students are now eligible for food benefits as a result of the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). Through P-EBT, eligible school children receive temporary emergency nutrition benefits in the form of funds loaded on an EBT card that can be used like a debit card to purchase food at any grocery store that accepts Link cards.
All CPS students, regardless of income or citizenship status, are eligible for P-EBT. Families will receive P-EBT cards automatically and do not need to complete an application. Each child will receive their own card mailed to their primary address in Aspen. Please ensure your address is up to date in order to receive this benefit.
Cards will be mailed in March and should arrive in an unmarked envelope. Families should keep their P-EBT card because future benefits will continue to be loaded onto the same card.
For additional information on this program, please view the FAQs, call the Healthy CPS Hotline at 773-553-KIDS or complete the Healthy CPS Encounter form.

Due to Canty food service needs, food pickup is on Wednesdays only at the Paris Parking Lot from 8am-1pm. Food pickup on other school days is provided by Bridge and Dirksen.
