Letter to Parents

Week of March 08, 2021
Dear Canty Families:
We were excited to welcome the 6th-8th hybrid students who returned to school in-person today! Today, all remote families will begin to receive emails and text messages regarding choice to opt-in for hybrid learning for 4th quarter. Please respond to the link in the email or text. We cannot resend the email or text from the school. You have until Friday, March 19th to choose hybrid learning. Not responding to the survey will result in a default to learning remotely. Note, current hybrid families will not receive this survey as hybrid families will continue with hybrid in quarter 4.  Please reach out if you have questions.

Canty Emergency Drills Tuesday and Friday
On Tuesday and Friday at 9:15am, in-person students will participate in three emergency drills: evacuation/fire drill, shelter in place and lockdown drill.  These drills will take approximately 45 minutes. During this time, remote students will engage in asynchronous activities provided by the teacher. Next week on Tuesday and Friday, in-person students will participate in a second evacuation/fire drill, during which students will engage in asynchronous activities. This drill will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Chipotle Fundraiser - This Wednesday March 10th at 4234 N. Harlem from 4-8pm!

Hybrid Families - Sign up for daily health screener text reminder and link!
Please follow these steps to receive a daily text reminder with personalized link to complete your child/ren’s health screeners!

Hybrid Families - Student Covid Testing
During the month of March, student surveillance testing will be available at Canty because our school is located in one of the 10 zip codes with the highest COVID rates.  Each week in March, 25% of students will be randomly selected for testing. Students must be at least 10 years old and have their parent or guardian consent prior to being tested.

Tomorrow and Thursday, your child will receive a paper copy of the consent form. Please complete and return it to school for your child to have this opportunity. Only students with returned consent forms will be tested.

Please review these links below for more information.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program
As part of the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all CPS students are now eligible for food benefits as a result of the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). Through P-EBT, eligible school children receive temporary emergency nutrition benefits in the form of funds loaded on an EBT card that can be used like a debit card to purchase food at any grocery store that accepts Link cards.

All CPS students, regardless of income or citizenship status, are eligible for P-EBT. Families will receive P-EBT cards automatically and do not need to complete an application. Each child will receive their own card mailed to their primary address in Aspen. Please ensure your address is up to date in order to receive this benefit.

Cards will be mailed in March and should arrive in an unmarked envelope. Families should keep their P-EBT card because future benefits will continue to be loaded onto the same card.
For additional information on this program, please view the FAQs, call the Healthy CPS Hotline at 773-553-KIDS or complete the Healthy CPS Encounter form.

CPS Travel Guidance
Hybrid students that travel must follow this CPS travel guidance when returning from travel out of the state or country.  In some instances, the student will be required to quarantine for 10 days and should be remote learning during that time.
