Letter to Parents
Week of August 24, 2020
Dear Canty Families:
This email contains a lot of information - please read it in its entirety.
Thank you for your patience during this summer. I understand that not having the exact answers to this school year has been incredibly challenging for all of us. My goal is to relay information in the weekly newsletter emailed to you Monday evenings. If you are not receiving the weekly newsletter, it is published on the Canty website the following day. Please check your Spam and Junk folders and make sure you add all parent email addresses to your Emergency Forms.
Student Schedules: It has been a busy week… and we have been working around the clock to get the opening of the school year prepared for our Cougars! We are ironing out the remote learning schedules and your child’s teachers’ will reach out to you to share your child’s specific remote learning schedule by Monday, August 31st.
You may have questions about classwork, homework, etc. I ask that you wait until the teachers give their classroom expectations before reaching out to me. We are all working to solidify class requirements and these expectations will be better explained by your child’s teacher.
School-Wide Parent Meeting: On September 1st, I will host a parent presentation about remote learning with a Q & A session. Please sign up to receive the link to attend this virtual meeting.
Expectations of Students during Remote Learning: The incoming school year will be different than they were in spring. Students will have the following expectations for attending class this year:
There are many things that you can do to prepare your child for the remote learning school day. If possible, have a place that is dedicated for school. Pack a lunch for your child and keep it in the fridge until lunch time. Set a bedtime and alarm clock in the morning. Have school supplies handy. Check your child’s Google Classroom with them to understand how their teachers are communicating with them.
Technology: If you have any type of technology (e.g., laptop, desktop, iPad) in your possession, that will work for your child’s remote learning. You do not need a school chromebook to complete assignments. If you need to request a Chromebook please complete this form. Student ID is helpful but NOT required to request a Chromebook.
Chromebook/Materials/Yearbook Pick-Up: Chromebook and Material Pick up will be Wednesday, September 2nd between 1pm-4pm and Thursday, September 3rd between 2pm-5pm. Door assignments will be sent in the August 31st parent communication.
School Supplies: If you were a family who ordered school supply packs, they will be delivered to Canty and we will distribute them when we have Student Supply Pick-Up! Your child will need all of the personal supplies listed for their grade accessible to them for remote learning. This includes all notebooks, binders, paper, pencils, crayons, markers, highlighters, notecards etc. Any shared supplies, such as reams of paper, ziplock bags, wipes, etc. will be collected when school resumes for in person learning.
Need Vaccinations?: If you are in need of medical vaccinations for your child, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile--Advocate Children's Hospital has agreed to provide students with vaccination and physical exam services based on appointment. Here is the link to sign up! Here is the link in Spanish.
